Craving Isolation, Coworkers Congregate

CNN covered coworking again this week calling the movement "The Next Phase of Working at Home."I love this story--which highlights less-formal coworking arrangements such as Jelly in Atlanta and a more-involved model called Less Distracted in Portland--because the author illustrates quite well how weird it is for freelancers and other indpendents to realize that we don't actually want to work at home, we just want to work on our own:

"The reason people work alone, is because they're looking for freedom," said Bachman, a 34-year-old Web developer who telecommutes part time. "It may be ironic that you crave isolation, but you also want to be socially interactive with others like you."I also love it because that quote makes me think of the excellent movie Clerks when Dante reminds Randall "You hate people" and Dante responds "But I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic?" I do love that movie.
