This Week at Office Nomads

Thursday is our Winter Open House!  We are really excited to showcase the work of Cleo Peterson this quarter.  At our Open House on Thursday we’ll have the usual snacks and drinks and Cleo will be here.  It’s bound to be a good time!

Also noteworthy is the Brown Bag tomorrow which will be lead by Lisa.  The topic is “Searching for Exoplanets”.  It’s going to be a blast so make sure you’re here Tuesday at 12:30. In addition, we’ll have the usual Happy Hour, yoga and good times.  Hopefully see you this week!

If your bookshelf is looking light on engineering and computer science books then Andrea could be your hook up. She is ½ of the sales and marketing department for Morgan & Claypool, an academic publishing company.  Andrea had been looking for work in publishing, museums, or education and this position within academic publishing fit the bill.  “It’s the perfect combination,” she says with a smile.

“The real thing I want to do is facilitate cross cultural communication between China and the US. Publishing is completely global and Morgan & Claypool is digital, so this is ideal.”  Morgan & Claypool is often selling books in Australia, Germany, and many other countries.   Andrea describes the main part of her job as pestering librarians and faculty members at institutions around the world.  And there is also the all-important task of keeping Mike Jones, her coworker, in line.  We are forever thankful for her for that.

When not hard at work, she’s an active participant here at Office Nomads. Andrea is often seen at our Open Houses and other events chatting with other Nomads.  “I love the people here, truly. I have gotten to meet a lot of interesting folks from different strokes.”  Andrea is one of those interesting folks with great stories of traveling abroad and always has fun stuff going on in her life.  Also, she recently got married and her husband, Kent, is a welcome addition to ON. No, he’s not technically a Nomad but he’s a regular face at events and always one for a funny story.  They live nearby in Capitol Hill with their two cats and one chatty bird.  No, seriously. They have a bird.
